What can you do?
Narcotics can have a serious impact on your life. Read the tips and advice of De Druglijn.
Do not be tempted to commit crime in order to make (illicit) money. Report any suspected serious offences to the police.
Impact and probability
The figures relating to probability and impact describe considerable drug trafficking. The BNRA theoretically describes such a scenario as follows:
- A drug shipment of less than 1000 kg is transported in a car, filling it to maximum capacity.
- Trafficking organisations are made up of distinct links between members of the organisation.
- Fewer than 100,000 Belgians use drugs, and the impact on the lives and health of users is low, with few or no injuries.
- The impact on public safety is also sporadic, implying that drug traffickers use relatively little violence to protect their income.
- The impact on the economy is negligible. There is virtually no policy to control traffickers.
How should you interpret these results?
Within the BNRA, experts assessed three scenarios for each risk: considerable, major or extreme. On each page, you will find the results of the scenario with the highest score based on the combination of likelihood and impact. This does not mean that this scenario will occur or is the most likely. Read more here about how to correctly interpret the results.

What do the authorities do?
The police, judiciary and other public services work together to tackle drug trafficking. In Belgium, the National Drugs Commissioner was set up in 2023 to advise policy in the fight against drug trafficking and drug-related crime.
MAOC-N (Maritime analistic operation center- narcotics) is a transatlantic partnership between several European member states to map the trafficking of illegal narcotics by sea and air. Belgium has been a member since 2024.
