Impact and probability

The figures relating to probability and impact describe a major public deficit. The BNRA theoretically describes such a scenario as follows:

  • The public deficit is high, ranging from 90% to 120% of gross debt as a percentage of GDP.
  • A small percentage of this debt is held by foreign investors.

How should you interpret these results?

Within the BNRA, experts assessed three scenarios for each risk: considerable, major or extreme. On each page, you will find the results of the scenario with the highest score based on the combination of likelihood and impact. This does not mean that this scenario will occur or is the most likely. Read more here about how to correctly interpret the results.

What do the authorities do?

The FPS BOSA publishes information for the federal administration on its website (comprehensible budget, monitoring reports, expenditure reviews, etc.). You can find up-to-date information there on the federal accounts and the revenue collected by the federal administration (French/Dutch only).

The National Bank of Belgium and the Federal Planning Bureau also publish figures.
