In an emergency situation, you can receive a message or a voice call from BE-Alert (number 1789) on your telephone.

BE-Alert

BE-Alert is the alert system of the authorities. Thanks to BE-Alert, the authorities can send you a text message, e-mail or voice call to alert you to an emergency situation and give you the necessary instructions.

When you sign up for BE-Alert, you can register several addresses. That way, you can be alerted when there is an emergency near your children's school, work or other family members.

You can receive a message from BE-Alert or 1789 when:

  • you are registered with BE-Alert and there is an emergency near one of your registered addresses;
  • you are close to an emergency situation and the authorities have decided to alert everyone with a mobile phone in the area. Even if you are not registered with BE-Alert, you will receive an alert message.

How do I know if a message comes from BE-Alert?

To be sure that a message comes from BE-Alert, you can check several aspects:

  • A BE-Alert message always starts with "BE-Alert".
  • A BE-Alert message comes from the number 1789 or 0477 77 77 55.
  • A BE-Alert message is always free. You will never receive a message asking you to provide your bank details.

Please note: if you have given your consent, you may also receive messages of general interest via BE-Alert, such as information about waste collection. These messages do not start with "BE-Alert", and come from the numbers 8686 or 0477 77 77 55.
