Talk about it
Thinking about emergencies or risks can cause stress. This can make you feel anxious, angry or depressed.
Here are some tips for dealing with stressful situations:
- Talk to your family, friends or someone you trust. You can also contact your GP.
- Eat, drink and get enough sleep.
- Regularly step back from current events and social networks. That will give you a moment's respite from the constant flow of information.
- Try to distract yourself from time to time. For example, play a game with your children or read a book.
- Exercise or play sports. Physical activity such as walking can help reduce stress.
You can also contact professional associations. They are there to help you:
- Community Help Service: if you need to talk. You can call +32 (0)2 648 40 14.
- Awel: for children and young people who need to talk. Call 102 or contact them via their website.
- Violence helpline: in the event of relationship tensions or violence (all ages). Call 1712 or visit www.1712.be.
- SOS suicide: you can call 1813. You can also chat with volunteers or contact them by e-mail.
